white cliffs of dover

We went to France and Belgium with Marco's parents, John and Rosa, this past weekend.  John and Rosa have travelled a good bit of France but not much of the northeastern part.

We were taking Eurotunnel from Folkstone and The White Cliffs of Dover are just 15 minutes or so from Folkstone, so we stopped through on the way to the train.

The wind speed was blow-a-small-child-over mph and I was timid on the slippery mud footpaths that were, in some sections, SO close to the edge of the cliffs.  The beauty of visiting on a cold windy day - no tourists getting all up in your pictures.

Another means of transport to mainland Europe from this area is the ferry from Dover, which would be another excellent way to view The Cliffs.

Marco and I will definitely be back again, maybe for a run along the cliff footpaths to the lighthouse and then a picnic.

More photos from our weekend tomorrow, below: the cliffs / boarding the Euro Tunnel.

(It still feels like the Italian Job, even the second time around.)

  1. When you get to France do you change the side of the road you drive on right away? How does this happen? some kind of circle? I'm totally serious.

  2. Good question Ms. Gildner! What happens is when we arrive in France, the train operator comes over the PA system to remind drivers to drive on the right side of the road when their car exits the train.

And same goes for when the train arrives in the UK, they reminds drivers to drive on the left side of the road.
